worship
St Michael's is open for personal prayer and contemplation on a limited basis twice a week.
Our provision of on-line worship will continue through this website every Sunday. We shall be holding two services in St Michael's over Easter 2pm on Good Friday - A service at the Foot of the Cross 11am on Easter Day - Parish Communion Contact details for members of the Clergy are in The Messenger or use the "Contact Us" page on this site. |
Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick, and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love. In Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. |

Services from the diocese
SundAY 28 February

This Sunday we are invited to join
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lympstone.
This week it’s a family affair as Demelza Henderson leads us and preaches about Jesus’ wonderful invitation to real life,
William Henderson reads Mark 8:31-38 and
Alice Henderson leads the intercessions.
Our talented ‘Open2God’ worship band bring us a wonderful rendition of ‘Here is Love’ and we have a traditional hymn,
courtesy of St. Martins Voices, with ‘O for a Closer Walk with God’.
"We serve the sea-side of Exmouth town centre,
the villages of Littleham and Lympstone and surrounding areas.
Being a “mission community” means
we seek to follow the example of Jesus in his love for humanity."

"The Daily Hope service will provide comfort and hope for everyone, especially in this Easter season," the Archbishop explains.
This is likely to be of particular value to those without internet access, so please pass the information on to anyone you know who might be interested.

about our services
8am Holy Communion
The 8 o’clock service is a spoken [no music] Holy Communion.
It is a quiet, intimate service, usually with quite a small congregation. It follows the Common Worship liturgy with prayers, a short address and the Eucharist. It generally lasts about 45 minutes. The 8am service takes place every 1st and 3rd Sundays throughout the year but occasionally may be arranged on other Sundays where it is appropriate to have an additional communion service. This gentle early morning service is one of the constants in the church’s history and will have been celebrated at St Michael’s in much the same form for over 170 years. |
service of the word
Also referred to as The Third Sunday Service.
Everyone is welcome to attend the 3rd Sunday Service which is a less formal service led by a team of clergy and lay members. (Holy Communion is at 8.00 am on this Sunday.) The service is easy to follow and often the content and interesting videos are shown on our film projection system. Throughout the year the services follow a central theme. The content varies and it is based on sound Bible teaching. Music, hymns, prayers and presentations are included and form an important part of the service. (Although a crèche is not provided the service is relayed to the Narthex and toys and equipment are available for children.) Following the services everyone is invited to enjoy coffee and fellowship in the Narthex at the back of the church. The Service of the Word is on the 3rd Sunday each month at 10am. |
messy church
![]() Messy Church is an informal church for families. Its values are Christ-centred and are based on creativity, hospitality and celebration. Together, we use hands-on activities to explore Bible stories.
Although Messy Church is geared towards the under-12 age group (NB children must be accompanied by a grown up) all ages are welcome. After the activities and a clergy-led talk, the children have tea whilst the adults enjoy a cup of tea/coffee. Everyone looks forward to the delicious home-made cakes! We meet once a month on a Friday in the Narthex at St Michael’s Church, West Hill from 3.45pm to 6pm. All the dates are included in the School’s newsletters plus there are posters around the village. Why don’t you give Messy Church a try? Dates for 2020 see "News" page all-age celebration
Occasionally we hold a more informal service to celebrate some special event or village activity. Our All-Age service is a relaxed and informal celebration with straightforward words, simple prayers and readings and well-known songs or hymns. A written order of service will guide you through. We may also have some special parts of the service including a choir anthem or children's activity.
Families and children are especially welcome and there will usually be refreshments after the service and a chance to socialise and meet new friends. |
10am parish Eucharist
Also referred to as Holy Communion
The Common Worship Liturgy is used and it is set within an easily followed booklet. The service includes music, hymns and prayers which are based on the Church of England's Lectionary readings and the sermon's focus. The services are led by members of the Mission Community Clergy. Family communions are held at many festival services and especially at Easter and Christmas. (Although a crèche is not provided the service is relayed to the Narthex and toys and equipment are available for children.) Following the services everyone is invited to enjoy coffee and fellowship in the Narthex at the back of the church. Cafe Church
A new approach providing an informal setting both for families and others of any age to explore aspects of Christianity and knowing God. We sit in groups, amply supplied with tea or coffee, soft drinks and cakes, and listen to a short talk or bible reading and explore what it means to us and our world. We often have a quiz and enjoy a song or two. Children have their own activities with group leaders in the church.
Cafe Church is on the 1st Sunday each month starting at 9.30am. |
